Every year nearly 2 million people in the US suffer work-related musculoskeletal disorders, including repetitive strain injury (RSI), such as carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and tendonitis caused by computer use.
Inside our wrist there is a narrow passage called the carpal tunnel that holds tendons, blood vessels, and the meridian nerve, all of which lie side by side, very close to one another. In general, injury or trauma to the area, including (but not limited to) repetitive movement of the wrists, can cause swelling of the tissues and carpal tunnel syndrome. This injury may be from sports or from sewing, typing, driving, assembly-line work, painting, writing, use of tools (especially hand tools or tools that vibrate), or similar activities.
